External Soundcard - Help

I have connected a jv-1010 synthesizer to the COM1 port of my laptop.
The jv-1010 can be used as an midi interface for other synts.

It is neither cheap nor DIY  but it is a good synth and other options (like
connecting a midi interface to the LPT1 (motu or midiman) cost a lot of money
too)
