Ho yes Batz, but it will do nothing to protect your mains transformer!
Stop being cheap and get a rectifier/truck battery/sine convertor from
your scrapyard mates ;-)
A more serious reply is that mains protection devices and filters are specced
separately for the "common" spike on the 2 mains wires, and spikes from one
or both of these with respect to earth.
