As I understood it, one of the main reasons for the introduction of the CD was a supposed better dynamic range.  I thought vinyl was claimed to have much more noise and hiss, which reduced the usable dynamic range to about 60-70dB. I think current vinyl is much better than this now. 

I completely agree about everything else!
