ODP: [remove soldered chips] Cheap & Dirty

I did something like that. Unlike most of sane solder iron users
I like to use transformer soldering gun (is that how it's called?) even for
SMD stuff. This kind which heats up a 1-2mm copper wire when you
press a triger. For desoldering IC I used to make U shaped tip with
'U' bottom as wide as all IC pins. Put some wire under IC pins, and
pull it while heating the pins with 'U' tip. One side of IC is free. IC legs
get a 'little' bended, but that's ok with me. Then the other side.
Well, it works. I unsoldered about 100 ICs this way, but it is good only
for 1-sided pcbs, or 2-sided with big holes. And the PCB looks awfull
afterwards. However, none of desoldered ICs was broken by this.
But now I'd rather desolder using solder sucker - PCB is much
cleaner then.
