simple way to add harmonics to a fundamental signal

Possibly not so simple, but...

if you have say 7 different distortion ckts
(the same ckt with different diodes/resistors would suffice)
then you have 7 different linear combinations of harmonics
(almost certainly).
Now, it shd be possible by making different linear combinations of these 
to get quite good approximations of the 1st, 2nd etc harmonics.

Although as Weird Al Yankovic said in another context, "But, ya wouldnt
wanna."

Anyone on the list made one of those craig Anderton quadrafuzz units where the
signal is split into bands and fuzzed separately? Was it worthwhile?
