compressor module idea thingy

I was just having a browse through my Future Music magazines
and read this article on "LoFi" effects. i pulled out the CD again
and had a listen to the effects. One thing that really grabed me
was the sound a drum loop going through a compressor which
was fed back into itself. It had a real crunchy popping sound that
was unbelievable. When no sound was going through the compressor
you can hear humming sound (which i assume is the feedback),
but as soon as the loop started it went away...  this gave me the
idea of a compressor module for a modular synth. I guess it would
be more suitable for percussive type sounds, but why not? If one
incorperated a feedback control, the amount of "crunchy popness"
(gee i'm getting real technical here) could be controlled.

Anyone have any compressor schematics?
