The "STRIP" is a liquid crystal Temperature Indicator... underneath is a shunt
resistor with varying width... so the thinnest part of the strip gets the
hottest...

Its really a power meter.  Probably not real practical. You can probably get
the film from EDMUND Scientific.  :-) Harry

Guess what? It's a chemical reaction controlled by a current! So al we
would have to do is to put a current or voltage to the strip which has approx
the same level as the knob has. 

Any chemists on the list?
