Mellotron Update

In mellotron 400's and Mk5's the playback heads go straight to a preamp
circuit, I would start there ... in 400's you have one channel of signal
and so you only need to probe along one line ... if there's no signal
coming ot of the preamp check the power supply lines to make sure they are
both alive at the preamp end ... the first versions of the Mellotron have
notoriously bad power supply circuits and tacho circuits on the motor ...
in the mk5 that I helped build I junked the original power supply save for
the tranny and installed a diode bridge, filter caps and good regulators as
a simple but sturdy supply to the audio circuits ... hope this helps a bit
... Mellotrons 4ever!!!
