LFO voltage?

hello
i am building a new LFO which may become the first module for my next (2nd
diy) synth. it's a real nice one with square(with PWM), sine, tri, ramp up,
ramp down, stair up, stair down, and stair up/down, with voltage controlled
freq. all this from 3 chips! anyway what i was wondering is what are
appropriate voltage levels for LFOs? one wave has +/-4 volt and a 0 to 8 volt
positive output. is it normal to have the bipolar outputs maintain the same
voltage swing as the positive only output? is there a reason why i shouldn't
have a full +-8 volt or 16volt swing? it would be easy for me to change a
resistor to obtain full 16 or 20 volt swings but looking at other LFO designs
i noticed many do not do this, and thought maybe it is excessive to have such
big output swings. i need to settle on a voltage range for my CVs now since
this is going to be the start of a new synth. my first synth, the MBM, has
different CV levels for each module, something i have to fix and avoid doing
on my new beast. maybe i'm getting bipolar. :) anyway i would appreciate any
advice or suggestions from those of you who took the time to read this and can
spare the time to help me decide which is the right swing and which is the
wrong swing.thanks.
mike.
