WARNING TO NEW USERS

Dear Mr. Barbour,

I'm writing to notify you that someone is obviously using your name
and email adress to send very unpleasant mail to a mailing list
devoted to building electronic music instruments. It includes
shouting, and personal attacks against a veritable long time list member.
(See the wording of the whole mail attatched.)

I've come to the conclusion that mails like this cannot come from the
man whose intelligent style of writing we know from an IEEE spectrum
cover article. It's highly unlikely, too, that after a long absence from this
mailing list (at least in terms of contributing) you would just come back
to send such a hate mail (and a second one some weeks ago).
And third, there was no sight of a battle like this person mentions
in synth-diy recently.

The anonymous poster who uses your name aparently believes that
he can do some harm on someone, though it's not perfectly clear
against whom this attack is directed. Is it an attempt to warn anybody
against regular contributor to this list, Paul Perry ? Hardly. Even if he uses
a name like yours, which is highly regarded in the world of tube design,
he should have known that nobody is blindly listening to "knowledge"
when it comes without the slightest use of manners, and when it is sent
to a mailing list that is remarkable free of flame wars in general.
Remains the other conclusion, that the anonymous poster's intention
is to harm you, Mr.Barbour, and drag your name into the mud. In which
he will suceed, if he keeps sending mails like this.

I don't know what skills are needed to fake email adresses, or how to
track down somebody who does, and stop him from doing that.
All I can do is to notify you about what's going on here, which I hereby do.

Thinking of it, if I just send this mail as a reply to the sender of the
original mail, will it reach him, or will it get to you?
Hope this will reach you - no, thinking of it again, hope it rather will not.
(If you're still subscribed to synth-diy, you will get it anyway.)

Regards,

JH.
