The Oak Technology drivers you are talking about are the worst. They are generic
and are only for emergency CD-ROM access if all else fails. Use the drivers that
come with your device for optimal performance, especially if you are in DOS mode.
Another 'tip' is to make sure you have EMM386.EXE in your config.sys. A windows 98
clean install does not put it there. This is your DOS Expanded Memory Manager
which is used by any DOS program worth its salt. Some say it slows down execution,
but you won't notice. It will allow your software to 'breathe' alot easier with
the increased RAM. I recommend the line - DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM AUTO
This will work with most common hardware configurations, and WIN98 likes it too!
