The story on the "crashed" toy beetle is that Bob was leaving a parking lot
one day and for some reason failed to take notice of a steel cable stretched
across the enterance. This ended life for his 800,000 mile VW beetle. He had
to buy a new (old) one. Boy did he bitch in his Pease Porridge column.  :-(

beard - could it be ? Yes it was Bob Pease himself,
and unfortunately I had missed his opening speech
for the seminar.
But it came better: At the end of the day there was a
little lottery, and guess what, RAP called *me* to the front,
shook my hands, and donated me an out of print book on 
opamp design and applications.
(There were two more winners, one got a "Troubleshooting" book,
and the 3rd one a strange book about avoiding accidents with a
crashed toy beetle on the sleeve ...)
