I have seen some exotic audio equipment that use these rotary encoders. For
volume adjustments, the control is kinda velocity sensitive: if you trun the
knob fast, the volume  increases in bigger steps than if you turn the knob
slowly. For example, 3db per step change for fast rotation, 0.5dB per step
chnage for slow rotation)
