Not at all, IMHO. the fact is that uCs and DSPs each serve different purposes.
DSPs are more signal-processing oriented, while uCs (and even some uPs) can nicely replace
dozens / hundreds of logic gates and functions, while occupying very little PCB space.
This statement is enhanced by the simple fact that every uCs these days has some nice on-chip
features
such full-duplex UART, etc.
And as the latest uCs can be clocked as high as 50,75 or even 100 MHz, they become faster and
more versatile than most items of TTL or CMOS families... And even blur the border between
uCs and DSPs...
