Ringmods/filters

Hello all...

I am building my first monosynth <yay>, and I have a few questions...

1) I want to build a ring mod. I have (i think) an MC 1496 balanced

modulator chip. Any good ringmod circuits outa this chip?

2) I just ripped apart my old Synare I, because a)it sounded hokey,

and B) Nobody wanted to buy it. I am using the sloped steel case for my

synth. I looked at the VCF circuit inside, and it looked like this,

near as I could tell:
           |
 	|\ | |-------|
        | \0 | FET |
    ----+  +---+----+buffer +------->next stage
 	| / | | |
        |/ --- |_______|
       3080 ---
        OTA |
              ___
               -
               ~

There were 4 of these cascaded, so I assume a 4 pole filter. Any

advantage to using FET buffers rather than Op-Amps? The filter was the

best-sounding part of the unit. I'm considering using a similar design

for my monosynth. Any suggestions/comments?
