DIY bass pedal synth

Hi everyone,
I'm going to realize my dreams of a bass pedal synth with presets.
I'll be using my spare CEM 3374 and 3378 (VCO and VCF/VCA) chips, a
simple env. generator and possibly one TomG's VC LFO (one of them).
The idea is: structurally simple, but programmable.
But - do anyone have suggestions for a simple envelope generator?
A really simple one, maybe the ADS type... could JH's VCHADSR circuit
be modified to a simpler one, for example? (remove the H and the R ;-)
And, what is the best way to make a preset-type synth? I was thinking
along the lines of the Yamaha CS-80: one set of "normal" knobs, and
three sets of miniature controls (trimpots) under a hatch. And then
somehow switch between the settings. Do I need to have every paremeter
voltage controllable? Will a CMOS switching system be best, or will it
be easier with many-poled mechanical switches?
How did they do the Taurus?
Thanks a lot,
Hallgeir
PS: My Nebulus is nearly done... only need to get the joystick going.
