DSM-1 - WAS: Re: diy GM synth

You do remember correctly Bud. I still own two of these beasts. However,
it would be a set-up nightmare in the DSM-1 to accomplish this task. It is
difficult enough to lay samples out to utilize the 16 individual outs. The
16 outs were basically designed so you could bring drum samples out
separately and still bring bass or other polyphonic sounds out the "mix"
output. The individual outs are assigned specifically by the sample within
the mutlisample and cannot be changed. However, if you were setting your
multisamples up for this specific purpose, I think you could do reasonably
well. You would have to set up an 8 zone drum multisample mapped over the
entire keyboard and a 8 zone synth sample mapped the same way, if you
wanted the synth to have individual notes out to the each filter. The
problem would be that if you hit a second note in the same zone as the
first note, the trigger would restart your EG and filter even on the
sustaining note. I don't see any way you could do any true voice rotation
with this set up.

However, this is one hell-of-a-good idea and would be a bitchin way to use
com-plex waveforms in place of the oscillators in my modular set up. I
don't have to worry about 8 note poly there (HAHA) cause I can's afford 8
modules of everything to do so. Of course, I could just use the DSS-1 (Yep
still have 2 of those (including the 2 meg SCSI model) as the filters in it
are quite nice.
