You could easily build it from 4 mm plywood. It will get very lightweight. The modules you stuff into it will account for most of the weight. I built a console for a synth and all my rack modules from this material. It looks a bit like an upright piano. The thing to remember is that you must brace the plywood sufficiently and in the proper way. Think of a truss bridge. I heard of an englishman that used to build model truss bridges out of paper. They were unbelievably strong.
For best rigidity, you could use the "stretched skin"  principle. This means two layers of thin plywwod, with wooden spacers between. I used 20 x 20 mm solid wood at all edges, which I milled 4 mm deep at the inner edges for glueing the plywood. This is both strong and good looking.
I've also built portable model railway sections using stetched skin frames. Also from 4 mm plywood. They are 80 x 150 cm and two are bolted together for transportation to shows. Still they can easily be carried by two persons. So far none have been damaged.
