I had luck at Allied. ( www.allied.avnet.com/)  They also had LM3900s, CA3086s,
etc....

    Yesterday I placed an order with JDR ( http://www.jdr.com ), they only
had 38 devices in stock.  I wanted a 100, and they said that they could get
the rest in a few days.  I sort of figured this would be my life time buy.

    Seems to me that maybe somebody should make up a list of IC's and
transistors that are useful and track their status.  One always like to
assume that the availability of useful parts will continue forever.  All I
can say is that DIY just keeps getting more challenging.  Although, that
just means we need to be more creative.
