I wont disagree, but, to be fair....
$250 is the price of the ready built unit.. the cut down kit (board & 
specialist components) is much less....I cant imagine any synth-diy member would
be buying the built up version! (looks much easier build than the Fatman, eg.)
and, I mentioned it to let people know that if they want to do this, they can.

I'm nor defending GM or ROMplers as such, but I think the more options there
are for 
controlable sound sources the better. And, there is a lead there for people
to follow
up, who knows what else the chip suppliers might be making?

I'd never overlook a ROMpler as a source of complex raw sound.

On another tack, I asked some time ago if anyone knew how to make a ckt to use
these cheap wavetable/midi/gm pc soundcards without a computer...
I imagine you could make a PIC operated docking station for them & have a whole
lotta fun, or possibly use one as the input/output for a cheapo sampler.

Batz? anyone?
