Hallo Done-It-Yourselves,
As has been discussed here recently, the early versions of the MS20 had our
favorite lil' bastard filter chip, the Korg IC35, and the later versions used
the dual LM13600's. The MS20 schematics show both versions. The MS10
schematics show only the IC35 as a low pass filter. It's unlikely that they
made later versions with LM13600's (they sold a lot more MS20's), but who
knows?
One wonders if they switched the LM13600's because the IC35's were just to
expensive to make (and were needed for all those PS-series polysynths), or if
they thought the LM13600's sounded better?
I have an MS20 with Korg 35 filters, and I absolutely LOVE the sound. Very
musical and grainy and kind of distorted, and sexy as hell - especially the
high-pass. I've never had a chance to A/B it with a later LM13600 model, but
I'd be very surprised if it sounded the same. One of these days I'll build
one of those Korg 35 clone filters and compare it with the real thing, and get
back to everyone with a report.

Yes and No. Obviously it's just one half of the MS-20 filter (the LP section).
But there is more. Different Models of MS-20's had very different filters, and
I don't know if the same is the case with the MS-10. I guess not, but I don't
know for sure.>>
