Harry Bissell: Did I read somewhere that Clara Rockmore played some theremin
tracks on the Forbidden Planet soundtrack? Or is that just someone's ignorant
fantasy?

This has been done to death in the Analog Heaven archives, but it was
extensive tape manipulation. The original sounds were made by custom valve
oscillators, sometimes with positive feedback & weird bias so they actually
heated up and destroyed themselves while squeaking.
The Holloywood industry mistreatment of the Barrons is second only to the
anti communist witch hunts for infamy.

At the time, the concept of 'cybernetics' was fashionable, which may have
philosophically influenced the Barrons. The closest present day equivalent to
them is probably Reed Ghazal, king of circuit benders.

BTW, I have no idea exactly WHAT ckts were used, but if I was trying, I'd
look at
squegging oscillators. (you'll need an old book to look that up)

BTW2: anyone use B.G.Micro for parts? good stuff at good prices, it looks
like.
