The only one I really care for (but I love it dearly) is Vangelis'
Bladerunner Soundtrack (Romanian Bootleg Version). Why? I suspect a lot
of it has to do with how strongly the music is connected with the images
from the film, and that it's one of the few synth-based soundtracks. This
is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, for me only 2001's is in
the same league. I think it's criminal that more film (especially sci-fi)
soundtracks aren't synth-based, rather than this pseudo-classical crap that
Hans Zimmer & Jerry Goldsmith excrete in such large quantities. I hope
that The Fifth Element and Pi signal a return to synthesized sci-fi
soundtracks (though I doubt there'll ever be another as freaky as Forbidden
Planet's).
