Hi all,
Thanks to all for the suggestions on how to solve my power supply
problems. I am still not finished with it because it has no regulators,
but I got it working well enough to test one of Tom's VCF -I loved the
way it sounds ( I burnt a TLO72 before I got my power supply right but the
3080s survived). Here is a schematic of my power supply, it fits inside
the original metal casing of a toy car supply:

               100 ohms
120 ~  ____||--^^^--o      o-->|--o-------------o    +
           ||       <      |      |
           ||       >  <---o--|<--)-------------o    _
 trnsfrmr  ||       > 100k        |             |
      _____||-------o             o--)|--o--)|--o
                                         |
                                         | (caps 2200u 25v)
                o------------------------o------o    ground

I put the pot before the diodes so that I could scale both the positive
and the negative simultaneously. This can be good or bad, but I had to do
add the resistor and the pot because the voltage drop before I added them
exeded the rating of my capacitors and the circuit -about +30v and -30v (
I think I need to calibrate my tester because I got a reading of about 30v
ac out the other end of the transformer; how can this become 60v after
rectification and filtering.. does this make sense?)

Anyhow, I am really grateful for all the help I have recieved on this list
and now I'm starting to make some progress, I ordered The Art of
Electronics and sent it to a friend who will get it to me as soon as
possilbe, the next thing I want to build is the LFO Tom designed which was
discussed recently.
