Desperate for SSM2163 info

Y-ellow Y'all.
	Ok I've been following the cryptic Analogue Devices Data sheet and it
doesn't work. It could be my firmware but I doubt it. It's more likely the
PSU hook up scheme I've used. Which, to be on the safe side, I've copied
directly from the SSM2163 data sheet. A data sheet that is less helpful
than most.

I know Elektor have a SSM2163 project out there. I don't know if they're
using a split supply or not but I am. +/- 7 volts (14 volts max) My
processor hangs on zero volts but has it's own 5 volt supply. I probably
don't need to see the schemo, just know how they've hooked it together. And
prey they've used a split supply.

As per the data sheet I have VSS tied to VEE tied to -7v. Whilst VCC tied
to VDD tied to +7v. AGND is tied to DGND is @ zero volts. Processor ground
is also at Zero volts potential but is supplied by it's own 5 volt reg.

When I clock the chip, I get no change in state from the DATA out pin which
seems to indicate that I have not met some voltage level requirement. But
having said that, my code does not spit out a symmetrical clock. It sets up
a bit, does the clock thing, then goes away and gets another bit which
takes much longer. At the boundary of every byte to be spat out, the time
between clock pulses is extraordinarily long as it loads up a new byte into
ACC. But I'm figuring this shouldn't make a difference because the SSM2163
is a static device. The only requirements seem to be that the data is
latched on the rising edge. 

A picture would probably paint a thousand words here but essentially
speaking, if anyone's seen any circuses for this device, particularly that
used in a split supply config, I'd be most appreciative if they could tell
me how the PSU scheme is hooked up.
