I know it's possible, but I can't remember exactly how. I did it in my
frist (and last...) synth project, about 10 years ago. It's something like
feeding the storing cap with the output voltage of its own buffer opamp.
Think it needed two opamps to do that, but I really don't remember how... 
I'm sure someone had thought of it before, it's not so difficult to find
out how to do that. I'll try to dig up that info and mail you and the list
if I have luck.

Anyway, if you really want pot reduction, you can use miniature SMD pots...
