Thanks for all the replies. In particular Peter from down South. I
thought it would not be a good idea, but it is always good to see what
other people think. Finding 500V elects is very hard in the UK, I
mentioned this in my last post. Now I know why. I was told when I
inquired at one supplier that an electrolytic cap cannot get CE
approval, or some sort, if its working voltage is over 500V. Thats why
there are loads of 450V ones, but no 500V ones. Sprague Atom types are
available but only from the US. These however are a very old design,
1960s, and may have sat on a shelf for the last ten years. So I will go
the usual route of two 47uF in series with a parallel combo of 220K
resistors to keep the midpoint at the, er, midpoint.
