I want to avoid hacking the software, burning PROMs etc. The AD7541AKN seems to be the most promising DAC. It has all the data bits on separate pins, so hopefully there will be no software changes necessary. You can download the datasheet from Analog Devices. Looks good. +-1/2 LSB relative accuracy over the entire temperature range.
