I've done something similar, a CV interface for the PC, which has a DAC
connected to the parallel port. See http://www.uni-bonn.de/~uzs159/cvmidi.html
Its only single output at this time but I plan to add an output multiplexer
and S&Hs for multichannel use. The nice thing about this is the driver,
that implements a midi-port for wind*ze.I've just shortly dreamed up the
possibility of "software modules" which output their cv's via such an
interface. 
But I wonder how precise a software LFO would be, if run under a
multitasking environment.

I think this depends a lot on the partucular model, but in general these
tend to have output caps. In case you find a suitable card, you can of
course hack into the cvmidi-driver (which in is just a hack of Zoltan
Janossy's midirouter.)
