i wrote a very simple additive synth: http://members.xoom.com/elev8/aws.zip.
playing with the phase didn't seem to have much effect on how simple
waveforms like saw and square sounded, although they looked much different
in the wave editor.

i tried this too (shift all harmonics by 90, 180, 270 degrees). The 180
degrees is just an upside-down square (as you'd expect, it is an 
even function). The 90 and 270 looked toothy, but round with a point
instead of straight like a true sawtooth. kind of like the way you
draw ocean waves as a kid.
