Harry's insightful comments about the LM324's usefulness as an audio and 
single-supply problems notwithstanding, I know from experience that the 
324, when run from a split supply, does work reasonably well in many 
DC amplification applications, as are often needed in synths.

Oberheim used them a lot in the OBxa and the OBx for stuff such as DC summing 
amps and voltage controlled LFO's, etc.  They still favored the TLO82 and
TLO84 
for audio circuits and for sample and hold buffers, though.
