While we're on the subject, how does the Serge equal powered pan work? The
problem with just inverting the voltage for pan is that there's a "hole in
the middle" because the summed voltage and resulting output sounds
perceptually quieter than the sound coming out of the left and right
speakers alone. The pan module on my kit-built Serge output module fixes
this, so does the following code in Csound:
make a sine table with the contents of 1/4 the sine wave-
outp_right = input * (table[position]);
outp_left = input * (table[1 - position]);
This assumes of course that the position can be interpolated or that there
are enough entries in the sine table to avoid stair-steps.
Would a diode circuit similar to the triangle-to-sine converter output the
right curve for this? Intuitively it seems like it would.
