Here Here:
The best source of parts is industrial-military complex waste. My company
(recently acquired) just emptied a warehouse and threw everything in the garbage.
I couldn't get to look over everything so I know lots made it to the landfill
(like 10's of thousands of NOS carbon comp resistors). My rank allowed me to defy
authority and take parts home (against orders... they wanted everything in the
trash). They didn't offer to donate the stuff to a school... even taking apart
stuffed boards is good training.
So I set aside a bunch of NOS A-B pots (the old metal can sealed units) to
tale home.
The B at stards they them in the dumpster. At 6:00 PM I was (you guessed it)
"dumpster diving" with a big trash bag... They even paid someone to take them out
of the cardboard boxes before throwing them in the scrap-metal bin...
I have a fantasy that there are DEMONS in some far corner of HELL. THe company
managers are tormented... the demons shriek "I'LL LET YOU OUT OF HELL IF ONLY YOU
CAN GIVE ME AN ALLEN-BRADLEY TYPE J 10K POT.... AWWW... YOU DON'T HAVE ANY...
GEE... THAT'S TOO BAD.....I'M SORRY...."
The moral is keep your eyes open for a bargain... Dumpsters are a great source
of parts.... :^) Harry (Jacques Costeau of the big metal ocean) Bissell
