I know some of you have already advised against used parts but i use em
everywhere. i'm a poor bastard, and although i love my hobby, i can hardly
afford it. a great source of used parts is a junkyard in close proximity to a
military base. i lived by this yard a few towns over from a navy base and you
wouldn't believe the stuff those folks threw out! on my way home from work one
day i stopped in and found a huge box full of power transformers, 23 in all,
and what quality stuff... EXPENSIVE. after a closer look i noticed that they
all had inventory stickers on them. they were all unused! some were scratched
up but they all worked beautifully. to this day i have no shortage of trannys.
i also make friends with people who own TV and stereo repair shops who'll give
me stuff by the truckload if i want it. i test every part before i use it and
the amount of used parts that are bad or fail is about the same as the amount
of new parts that are bad and fail. my weird little modular is comprised of
about 25 - 30% used parts. believe it or not i've had plenty of new parts fail
on it already and only 2 used parts that i had to swap out for being out of
tolerance. so stick that in yer pipe and smoke it you used part naysayers. hey
i'm saving money, and in all truth, not compromising the quality of my
circuits. just gotta watch out and enjoy tearing things apart. my 3 cents.
Mike.
