Controlling synths with sysex

Hi,

I was just checking out the seq303 program, and was wondering if I could use it (or any other software synth) to control things like cutoff and resonance of my Roland JX8P.  Its a great sounding synth, all analogue besides the dual DCOs and midi control.   

The sysex requires a whole pile of parameters (about four from memory) to be entered before the actual cutoff parameter value.  Is there a way of doing this using software?  Will NRPNs help?  I just need the sequencer to output a string of numbers before the variable parameter.
