Uuups. Where did I see such a thing? Oh yes I had it once in my rack... ;-)
What you are describing is a Doepfer MAQ 16/3. For sure it might be fun to  
diy such a thing, but if you want to have it and us it "only" you should  
think it over.

I gave the MAQ away because I didn't need more than three or four step  
sequences for playing on stage. And for my home made music it was ok to turn  
the knobs daily ;).
