If you can keep the switching noise out of the way this is a good solution.
With a +5V supply you're limited to less than 5 octaves of CV anyway,
unless you scale it externally. This way you can get maybe 8 octaves,
depending on output swing. For 10.5 octaves (7 bit conversion) you're going
to need a 12V supply and a good opamp. A good DAC wouldn't hurt.
