Higher sampling rates would solve most of the problems with "virtual analog." 
I know that low cost D/A convertors that run at 192 kHz are coming out soon.
 At that sampling rate, you would only have to worry about foldover at 96 kHz -
and you wouldn't even hear that until it went back down to 20 khz or so (which
would correspond to frequencies of 172 kHz).

Don't get me wrong - the Nord Modular is a great concept. I just wish that they
had gone a bit further in one of two directions:

- make it a true analog emulation synth, and try to accurately model the
nonlinearities, instead of just using conventional computer music tricks. 

- making it a general digital modular system, and including delay memory in the
design, so they could use techniques like granular synthesis, reverbs, etc.

Still, if they come out with a good frequency shifter, I may pick up a Micro
Modular.
