If a printed circuit board(etched!!) is used as the sub panel, then the pots 
and jacks can be attached to this.(depending on the type of each) This is 
what im currently doing with my synth. Only problem is i still need to cut 
the pot shafts to size!!

Best thing is the pcb pattern can be used as a drill template for the frount 
panel:)
