Early EMU Modulars?

Last weekend I was visiting a friend in Seattle. During this visit, we visited
another friend who had some old modulars that he had bought from a German guy in
Florida over AOL. What he had were three cabinets, two small ones, and one huge
one. One of the smaller ones had a Black and green panel, which looked like
some kind of vinyl overlay, I think the other one was light blue in color with
black lettering, again with a vinyl overlay. The large one had blue panels with
black and white lettering. None of them had any name on them, but there was a
logo with two R's, one upside down, the othe right side up - both in a circle.
The module layouts looked exactly like the EMU modules I've seen in the EMU
modular users manual, and most of the modules are based around early SSM ICs, so
I'm assuming that it might be an early EMU system. It looks like most of the
system is from a kit. Did EMU sell kits to DIYers in the early days? Does
anyone know more about EMU's early modulars? Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot to
mention the soda pop can capacitors in the large cabinet. Stick your tongue on
that!
A lot of the modules are in a state of disrepair, I think none of the VCTGs
(EGs) work, and one of the multimode filters did more horrendous cracking sounds
than anything else. Apparently someone had soldered the connections from the
mode pot to the cutoff pot. The modules that did work were pretty amazing -
amazingly fat! He patched up a complex FM patch with serious PWM action which
resulted in shaking the walls of the small Seattle house.
Anyway, any info on this old system would be appreciated. It's definitely a
beast!
