JAN = Joint Army Navy - In the military for along time we could only use
JAN parts. Sometimes we would wait a week or two for a part you could by
from any electronics supplier in a half hour. Including the drive off base.
JAN spec'ed parts made sense for aircraft, but sure slowed down repair
times on test equipment.
