Maybe this is a price convention.
You get a half connection (only 1 phase) for less money,
if you need 3 phase (asynchronous engines, high power) you have to pay more.

Here in Germany you always get 3 phase, and I guess they charge us extra
for that ....

Did you know that most of the electric power laws in Germany come
from 1933?  If only I could remember what this peculiar date means (;->).

Maybe a little present from Mr. Hitler for his friends in the industrie
for all the campaign support (airplane, money, airplay)?

Oh nasty boy that I am, how could I suspect....

Any way, these laws are still in effect and give a hard time for alternative
energy.

There is a community here still fighting a lawsuit against the monopolist,
they wanted to run their own power plant...
