A good definition of "squelch" would help, of course. My guess is that what you want lies somewhere
in between distortion, resonant filtering, and audio rate modulation of a sound. I would suggest
building a clone of the MS-20 filtering section. This can add distortion to the sound (with loud
enough inputs), filtering, and that farty, fruity filter FM sound, by having the sound that is being
filtered also modulating the cutoff of one or more of the filters. If that sound isn't squelchy, I
don't know what is.
For a schematic, try http://www.mindspring.com/~vco/cbook/pics/vcf8b_sd.gif. This is a modified
version of the MS-20 filter, that should be easier to build and more versatile.
