in Europe the power is different,
240 volts 50 Hz .Most domestic buildings don't have 3 phase supplies,
so you have Live neutral and Earth connections.
The live is at 240 volts , the neutral is near 0 volts and Earth is 0
volts.
different regulations apply over here as the 240 volts is much more
damgerous than the 110 volts..............
Its illegal in the UK to remove the earth connection on equipment to
stop ground loops [ or for any other reason ].
I would never recommend that anyone removes the earth connection on 240
v powered equipment , it can be too dangerous ........
[ I work on musical equipment , and had to get the
relevent info from the Health and Safety executive on this question ].
I think sometimes mains isolating transformers are used to reduce some
of the ground loop problems, but I still don't fully understand all the
methods to reduce hum.
