A primitive (but useful) first test is to touch the tip of your guitar cable 
to the mic and watch for arcing. Or touch the guitar tuners to the mic if 
your guitar is plugged in. I hate getting shocked, even if it's only across 
my finger.

Another way is, of course, to ask your guitar tech (or drummer) to hold the 
mic, and casually brush the strings of your guitar against him, and see how 
far he jumps.
