Excuse me for answering public, but others may also have the same "problem".

You mean the sonogram? Somwhere hidden in the menues is the colour
resolution of the sonogram. Too large values give an "overexposed"
view, too much sensitivity and vice versa. With a correct setting you
can normally spot the partials very easy. Try this. I remember it was
in one of the three leftmost menues from the menue bar.

There is also an analysis window wich does a fft at cursor location.
You can select sensitivity, number of points and window function.

By toying around with a know spectrum (use synthesis box of Cool-Edit)
you can learn a lot.

Attention: Coll-Edit synthesis suffers from aliasing!
This can lead to absolutely confusing results.
