What is all this oxygen free copper audio cable stuff?

>From my understanding the copper crystals in a wire have a quite large
interface area (rughness), so voids , dirt and other impurities at one
location will be shortet by "perfect" interfaces at other places.

And there are quite a lot of parallel crystals.

So it is hard to believe that impurities can provoke rectifier
effects, ie. nonlinear distortion.

Or am I completely wrong?
