    Yep sure is.  It is called Fourier (sp?) analysis and synthesis.  This is
covered in Hal Chamberlains book, Musical Applications of Microprocessors.  The
analysis is a little complicated and computationally intensive, but the
synthesis is pretty straight forward, just a bunch of harmonically related
sinusoids mixid with appropriate amplitudes.
