The simplest possible circuit to generate a sound... (beginner)

of, anyone have any good ideas of how to get a good "hard sync" sound out of a guitar? i.e.

You could try to trigger a couple of cascaded monoflops by your signal.
Each with a coefficient summing into a buffer.
This will give a 1 bit digital impulse response. You could try
to tune this arrangement like a vco.

Getting a trigger out of your signal is another problem, of course.
