I agree.  I just bought a cheap 49-key MIDI controller on the
eBay auction site (www.ebay.com) for $99 and plan to use it to
drive any DIY gear I build.  Fatar makes an inexpensive line
of master controllers called Studio Logic.  I've played them
at local music stores and they have a good feel (better than
my Yamaha KX-88).
